Hi everyone,
My name is Hammad iwas planning to have a penile implant toward the end of this year. However, I recently developed sudden severe lower-back pain and was diagnosed with an L5-S1 disc protrusion.
Thankfully, my back and leg symptoms have been improving significantly with conservative treatment, but this has made me concerned about whether I can still safely proceed with penile implant surgery once my back has recovered.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had a penile implant after having a lumbar disc problem, herniated disc, or similar back condition.
A few things I would especially like to know:
Did your back condition affect your decision or timing for the implant?
How long did you wait after your back symptoms improved before having the implant?
Did the implant surgery or anesthesia cause any problems with your back?
Were you able to return to normal activities after both conditions?
If you have been in a similar situation, is there anything you wish you had known beforehand?
I understand that everyone's situation is different and that I will need clearance from my doctors. I'm mainly looking for real-world experiences from people who have been through something similar.
Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to share their experience. It would really help me understand what others have done in this situation.

Re: About panile implant
I have been having a chronic back issue for a long time. Due to some nerve damage I have a constantly number left leg. My back is a ticking bomb, it can trigger at any moment. Then, suddenly, without any warning or even conditions it goes into a sharp pain mode in 2 possible flavors - either I cannot bend or I cannot straighten up. I consider myself lucky when the first variant hits. To recover from that state it can take me from days to months.
That was a long inro. Now to your question about whether the implant surgery can affect the back.
2 weks ago I had an implant replacent and I got some back issue but not in the form you might think. The challenge was that in the discharge instruction I was prescribed to sleep in half-sitting position as I was in risk for some sleep apnea condition. I religiously followed the protocol but since that was a very unnatural sleeping position for me, I started having middle back pain. The good news was that as soon I started sleeping in my normal position, the pain was gone.
To summarize, I did not have any back complications from the surgery itself but I did have back condition worsen due to the sleeping position.

Re: About panile implant
I have had two surgeries on my lower back. First was to correct a disc protrusion at L4/L5. That was trimmed and all was well. But, the problem returned with severe pain about 3 years later. The second surgery was the Unilateral Fusion of L4/L5 on the right side. So I've got a piece of titanium there. My situation is a bit different than yours in that there was a 3 year gap between the fusion surgery and IPP. The fusion surgery eliminated my back problems that I had suffered with for several years. The only thing post-op from the fusion surgery that might have caused a delay in IPP surgery was the one year recovery time. There was a limitation in physical activities, but not sex as long as I could tolerate it. Just my guess, but I would guess the Neurosurgeon would have probably suggested a 3 month wait for the IPP after surgery as I was much more restricted in the initial 3 month period than I was for the remainder of the year.
From my experience, I would say to make sure your back issues are good first (I delayed for awhile and I have some permanent numbness in my leg now). If your back is good to go, get the IPP and enjoy.

Not the same but similar situation. Had an IPP scheduled for May 15th. On last day of March I had a terrible fall into the hold of my houseboat and tore my shoulder out of joint tearing 4 of the 5 rotator muscles in two and detached my biceps. Also broke 3 ribs so was an emergency surgery two days later to repair the shoulder. I asked both surgeons if it would be an issue to go ahead with the IPP two weeks to the day. Both said I was health enough and that the recovery for shoulder would be MUCH worse and that being immobile for several days and gradually getting around after the implant worked well together. Turns out I personally think I was in so much pain with the shoulder that I practically didn’t notice any pain or discomfort at all with the IPP. Thankfully it was my left arm so after a couple weeks I got to start cycling which in some ways distracted me from my shoulder pain. Saying all this, having the IPP might work with the back issues in recovering together. No lifting for 6 weeks should help both. Just some thoughts.
