Sleazeballs trying to skip the warranty paperwork. It costs them $10,000. Is your doctor agreeing to that? Is your insurance covering this?

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield through my wife’s company now. I had BCBS with my previous company when I had it done originally and they paid for everything but the deductible. It doesn’t matter the insurance company it’s the plan the company has settled on. Many large companies self insure anyhow and BCBS is just a service provider.

When we were discussing self pay I asked Clavell about whether they would try to weasel out of the warranty and he said there will not be a problem with that. As one of their top volume docs they want to keep him happy.

Bp1111, I’ll also be going in for replacement one week to the day after you! September 5th. My original lasted 4 years but was still functioning perfectly… my issue was the Dr I used in Dallas didn’t know how to properly place the reservoir and it literally migrated out from under the muscle just to left of shaft and directly under my pants line. Also tips were place really low and weee in danger of erosion. Hopefully this one will last a LOt longer! Keep us posted on your recovery and I’ll follow and compare!

I am on Medicare. And yes, my doctor agreed to do the surgery.

I am, however, not done with Boston Scientific!

The revision was done yesterday. All went well from my perspective and Dr. Clavell also communicated that surgery went well. I haven’t talked with the doctor or seen surgical notes so all I know is he thought it went well. My surgery wasn’t until mid day. The surgical center said Clavell had five that day.

All went well before surgery with checkin and prep, but I didn’t like the Memorial Village Surgical center as much as HCA. The waiting room was way more chaotic and the bathroom out there was dirty. All fine once I went into the prep/recovery area. Really just little things, but just not as impressive as HCA. Once in prep… EKG done, IV setup, doc came by, anesthesia, etc., then they rolled me back to the OR. I woke up, peed in a bottle and they wheeled me out.

No problems so far. Only bad pain so far was peeing the first few times, because of the catheter used during surgery. Some soreness and swelling around the belly from reservoir removal and trying to get it placed better, but not bad. I am taking the gabapentin and ketorolac, but really the only reason I’m taking the ketorolac is because it’s good at reducing/preventing swelling from what I’ve read, which I had a big problem with last time. Also taking the two antibiotics for 7 days. I have been a bit out of it because of the anesthesia and find it hard to focus but that seems to be improving to as I have been able to write this post in a reasonable amount of time.

I had insurance and they covered both surgeries. The one I have now wouldn’t have covered the original, but they cover removal and replacement.

Here is another failure story: Seven years with AMS CX 18+2 and it deflates mid-sex. No idea what went wrong. Doctor says it doesn't matter. He says I just wore it out. Maybe I did! Qualified for a new one and changed doctor and got an LGX 18+2 that I had wanted before. My doctor's "penile rehab program" was to full pump one or more times per day for at least one hour each time and to fully deflate afterward. I was able to get in two per day on most days, breakfast and at night. Noticed something wrong during the program and doctor described it a full 180 degree flip of the left cylinder. That is the RTE's were at the head of my penis, the inflatable body was pointed inward. He had never seen this type of failure before. He opened me up again :o, found all parts of the implant working nicely, but found some damage to the place where the RTE's are supposed to be and this time he used some reinforcing organic "skin" at the site of the RTE's. Though stitched in place his new "penile rehab program" now was intended to hold the reinforcing material in place by keeping the implant fully inflated for six weeks with no deflations. That was nearly impossible to do because 100% inflation starts to hurt after about an hour...and I needed to go six weeks. We compromised on 90% inflation which was much more comfortable. :D But my inflation puts my penis just about horizontal, not the most convenient angle when wearing clothes. I used double pairs of Spandex underwear to hold it mostly upward when leaving the house and went around the house for six weeks wearing no underwear at all. Of course no sex was allowed. Had several checkups in the six week period to demonstrate the intended reinforcing material at the RTE's was growing in place. (Had a beautiful lady resident in Urology that did the examinations. :D) Sleeping position gave me additional challenges, ended up sleeping with a pillow between my legs. Another difficulty, pissing. With a 90% inflated penis the only way to piss is standing up. Since I don't have a men's urinal at home, mostly I could use a funnel like device to aim it, but pissing in the shower worked like a charm. With a few exceptions the difficult part was no sex for about ten months. I was so pleased when the six weeks was over. Implant wise the thing is working perfectly. :D Currently the LGX changes about 15% on inflation. Some intercourse positions are not as good as others, but that is mostly because during this period I had back surgery.
Aug'15: RP NON nerve-sparing. Pills, vac pump, injections. Aug'17: Implant: AMS CX 18 cm+2 cm. (Undersized!) Used often. CX failed Aug'25. Dec '25 new AMS LGX 18 +2, LGX failed Jan '26  , Reimplanted LGX Apr '26 :D.
