PERIODIC ED

Postby Tellmehow » Sat Aug 15, 2026 9:36 am

About a year ago, I had a period of severe ED that I was convinced was vascular. It eventually resolved, and over the past year I’ve had sex around 100 times, with about 90 being completely normal.

For the last 10 days, however, most of my erections have been terrible, both during sex and masturbation. This started after I began spending several hours in two days on sex chats and sexual fantasies.

My arousal is also much weaker and sometimes fades quickly. There have been a couple of exceptions: one very strong erection lasted around 40 minutes with relatively little stimulation, and I also had one good, sustained erection during sex.

Could this be temporary overstimulation/anxiety rather than a physical/vascular problem? Has anyone experienced something similar?

Curious how old are you? How is your health? Hormone levels?

I am nearing 60 and have similar patterns. Can be great for long periods and the a week or two of poor quality erections. Probably some age and vascular but stress and performance anxiety can make it worse. Like you function just fine 90% of the time.

Probably need more details for folks to help or comment

I experienced the symptoms off and on starting around age 60. We would have sex without a problem, then a session where I would go soft. Those incidents started happening more frequently. My wife worried that it was her, that I was no longer sexually attracted to her. This went on for quite some time, probably a couple of years before I talked with my PCP. He prescribed Viagra which fixed the problem. For awhile. Viagra worked for awhile, then Cialis, then shots. Finally got the problem fixed in January with an IPP. All of that over a period of 15 years. It should have probably been over a 10 year period max.

Overuse can certainly be a problem, and the literature is ripe with info on over stimulation from porn/sex chats, etc., excessive masturbation. I seriously doubt that's your problem out of the clear blue. You didn't mention your age, and age becomes more and more of a factor in ED. Don't make the mistake I made in waiting too long for help. Then making the mistake of assuming "the next time will be better" after a failure on pills/shots as they lose their effectiveness. Go see your PCP or a urologist now. Sex is too important to waste.
75 YO (1951). Happily married since 1972 (A couple since 1968). ED since age 60. Viagra, then Cialis, Trimix/Quadmix and VED. AMS 700 CX, 21cm + 1cm RTE left side, MS pump & 100cc reservoir. Implanted using Infrapubic procedure Jan 21, 2026.

Thanks for your reply. I'm 39 years old. 1.5 years ago after a stressful period I started sex chatting compulsively hours and hours for days. After that I was not able to get firm or lasting erections. I thout I had injured something. Even on viagra I'd lose my erection. After 3 months my problem was solved. Without any medication I had more than 150 intercourse... maybe 5 times my erection was weak. Until 2 weeks ago which I did the same with sex chat... since then my erection is awful... except for 3 very good erections. I feel the intensive stimulation messes up with my arousal response... but, I really don't know what to do....

Tellmehow: How's your testosterone? Mine dropped rapidly at age 53 to the point where I'd go soft in the middle of sex; see my signature.

My endocrinologist said T can drop fast or slowly.
Age 81 in 2026. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 25 min.
